The Portal occupies a 1,300-square-foot former real estate office on Mission Street. Converting the Art Deco storefront took three years, involving endless studying of byzantine building codes, successive rounds of city approvals, and a complex construction project.

The completed 45-seat theater is built around the viewing experience as well as the conversation afterward. The Portal is equipped to show 35mm, 16mm, and DCP and offers an intimate lobby serving beer and wine, soft drinks, snacks, and popcorn.
